Imagine this: exposed timber beams, soft furnishing, hide throws on a stone floor, a wide-open fire. It’s a sanctuary from the outside world for the lone star cowboy and the world-weary traveller.

Nothing says home like quite like a western style ranch. Take inspiration from Reese Witherspoon’s historic seven-acre ranch home in California – the south western interior design scheme nods at the Spanish influences in the area of decades past.

Or the comfortable yet bold interior scheme of this family home in Marfa, Texas. Designed in collaboration with Mark Cunningham, this home embraces rare vintage finds, Native American accents and layered texture.

Why not try this look at home?

Colour palette: Think neutral cream, sand, arid red, warm brown and yellow – any colour you may find in the sunsets, mountain ranges and arid landscapes of south western America.

Textures and prints: Pine wood, leather, hide, anything with a natural finish. Highlight with Navajo inspired bold geometric prints – add this splash of colour as a rug, throw or selection of scatters.

Accessories: Think wrought iron accents reminiscent of the Spanish influence in the south west, vintage cattle skulls or old bone “hunting trophy’s”, a hint of the stars and stripes, anything with a cow hide finish or that has a horse motif.  Try this striking wild Horse Print or hide Billy Stool, both available at Coco Republic.
