Melbourne in Paris – Coutume Cafe
Paris is known for many things, coffee is not one of them…
Coutume cafe is a French specialty coffee roaster and retailer established in 2011 by Australian Tom Clark and French-born, Melbourne-trained roaster, Antoine Netien – both with a mission to put Paris on the coffee map.
Coutume cafe is located on Rue de Babylone, behind the Bon Marché in one of Paris’ most traditional districts. In a defiant move, the interior of this new café boasts bare floor boards, stainless steel counter tops, naked walls and raw finishes – a real stand out compared to it’s traditional Parisian neighbours. With striking high ceilings and a plastic curtain separating the coffee roasting machine from the café, it’s no wonder this space has been described by some as a cross between a science lab and a warehouse.
The beans are roasted on site and Coutume will brew you a perfect cup of coffee using some of the most refined techniques; espresso, Japanese siphon, conical drip or cold-extraction.
It’s a little taste of Melbourne right in the heart of Paris.
